Mergio is a local-first Markdown notes app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Your notes are ordinary .md files that live in folders you choose, or in your own iCloud Drive — Mergio itself collects nothing about you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a folder of Markdown files as a repository?

Open the repository panel: the button at the bottom of the sidebar on Mac, or ⋯ → Repositories on iPhone and iPad. Choose Open Local Repository… and pick the folder in the system dialog. Any folder containing Markdown files works — Mergio shows the folder tree and opens .md files as notes.

If you would rather start from scratch, choose New Repository… instead: give the repository a name, choose whether it should live in iCloud Drive (Store in iCloud on) or on this device (off), and Mergio creates the folder for you.

Where are my notes stored, and how do I find them outside the app?

Notes are plain .md files in one of two places:

• a folder you opened yourself, or
• iCloud Drive → Mergio — in the Files app on iPhone and iPad (Browse → iCloud Drive → Mergio), or in Finder on Mac.

Nothing is hidden in a database: you can open, copy, back up, or move those files with any other app. If you use iCloud Drive, Apple syncs that folder between your devices, so the same notes appear on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

How do I insert an image, and where is it saved?

Put the cursor where the image should go and press the image button in the format bar. On iPhone and iPad the system photo picker opens; on Mac a file panel opens so you can choose an image on your disk. You can also paste an image from the clipboard.

Mergio saves the image as a PNG file next to the note and inserts a Markdown link to it. You can change where images go in Settings → Files → Attachments: next to the note (the default), in the repository root, or in a folder you choose inside the repository.

The photo picker on iPhone and iPad runs outside Mergio: there is no photo-library permission prompt, and Mergio receives only the single image you tap.

What does the free version include, and what happens when I reach the limit?

The free version is the complete editor — Markdown editing with live preview, iCloud sync, export — with a limit on how much you can keep in it: up to 3 repositories and 50 notes and folders in total.

When you reach a limit, Mergio stops creating new repositories, notes, and folders, and offers Mergio Pro. Nothing you already have is locked: every existing note stays readable, editable, exportable, and deletable. Delete down below the limit and creating works again. Pro — yearly, monthly, or a one-time Lifetime Unlock — removes both limits.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Settings → About → Pro and press Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought Mergio Pro with: a purchase belongs to the Apple Account, not to the app. Restoring also works after reinstalling the app or on a new device.

How do I cancel or manage a subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple, so they are cancelled in your Apple Account rather than inside Mergio: on iPhone and iPad under Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or from Apple’s page at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions on any device. If your app shows a Pro screen (Settings → About → Pro), it also has a Manage Subscription link.

Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for. The one-time Lifetime Unlock is not a subscription and has nothing to cancel.

Why does Mergio ask about iCloud, and what happens if I say no?

iCloud is optional in Mergio. When you create a repository with Store in iCloud turned on, it is created in iCloud Drive → Mergio. On macOS, the first time the app actually needs that folder the system shows a one-time dialog asking whether Mergio may use iCloud.

If you decline it — or you are not signed in to iCloud — nothing breaks. Mergio explains what happened and asks you to pick another location; a repository in a local folder or in a folder you choose yourself works exactly the same. On iPhone and iPad there is no consent dialog: without iCloud, the iCloud Drive location is simply not available.

Does Mergio collect any data?

No. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no third-party SDK, and no server operated by the developer. Your notes never leave your devices except through your own iCloud Drive. The details are in the privacy policy.

How do I contact support?

You can also use Settings → About → Contact Support, which opens a pre-filled email that already contains your app version — that version number is the first thing we need, so it saves a round trip.
